Tesla
rewrites history to chisel worker paychecks

FOR SCHOOLS If Reform Fails: Health Care, Jobs and Unions new power to the people on the public airwaves The
program premiers were available to every television set in the region
because of a high-mileage media hybrid. The
          Barbwire's Greatest Hits |
If I say that I hate to say I told you so, I'd be lying.
Last year, I contacted
tax law experts to determine whether or not Gomorrah South megaresorts and other
vampire empires could take advantage of the tax-sucking Tesla
  tax break.

Two heavyweights said no but couldn't back up their opinions. ("Can
Megaresorts scam Tesla-style freebies?" Barbwire 9-23-3014)

Since then, North Las Vegas Mayor John Lee has trial-ballooned using
the Tesla template to subsidize a huge business development in his troubled
  town.

Adding insult to injury, Tesla last week pulled a Chico Marx: "Who
you gonna believe me or your own eyes?" (From Duck Soup,
  1932)

All is not ducky in Tesla's magic kingdom.
In the same week that
Elon Musk's SpaceX outfit delivered groceries by drone to the
international space station, Tesla's promise of high-paying Nevada jobs crashed
  to earth.

Neon Elon's commitment to $25 an hour, dutifully parroted by Gov. Veto El
Obtúsè, all of a sudden never existed.

The new figure is $22, just a shade above the state average wage which is edging
  toward $21.
 It's long been Nevada
law that to qualify for taxpayer subsidies, new jobs must pay at the state average
  or above.

So the Muskovites are revising history in order to pay the minimum to keep their
  welfare.

According to the Detroit Free Press, Tesla only pays $17 an hour at its
Fremont, Calif., assembly plant which was unionized when it was a joint GM-Toyota
  operation.

Adding insult to injury as usual, Tesla purchased the former United Autoworkers
  union hall.

The UAW has since begun an organizing drive in Fremont.
Might Bay Area workers in one of the country's most expensive metros become irritated when learning Tesla pays more in backwater Storey County?
Might the once-mighty
  UAW recognize an opportunity?

I was recently interviewed by an NPR radio station about the disparity
  between white and black unemployment.
I noted how Nevada schools
could remedy their longtime legacy as feeders for the state prison system by
retaining some of the taxes doled out like Oxycontin on a street corner to fatcats
  who don't need them.

I checked off a list of taxpayer-funded corporate welfare for rich guys: The
Reno casino district Union Pacific railroad trench; the tax-cheating
Reno Aceholes baseball team and their freebie stadium complex; Scheels,
the Sparks Marina, Cabela's and their STAR bonds boondoggle; the
Reno and Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authorities; the Sparks
and Reno downtown redevelopment districts; the Las Vegas NASCAR superspeedway,
  among others.

  The interview never aired.
Public radio and TV
  also suck the corporate nipple.

A decade ago, I ordered a spreadsheet of all Nevada tax breaks and got about
  18 pages. Today, it's an inch-thick volume.

Time to balance the books with a Tesla organizing drive.

Just let me know when the first UAW picket line is going up.

65 YEARS OF KICKING THE CAN DOWN THE YELLOW BRICK ROAD. Read Tribune alumnus Dennis Myers' tour de force about a tour de farce in the Feb. 5 Reno News & Review.
His cover story "No Fair" provides a quick and vicious history lesson about Nevada government failing to take care of its people.
MYERS: Nevadans may well wonder why one of the states biggest and most familiar problems could be ignored so assiduously for decades, like an elephant in the room. In the end, the explanation comes down to a rule of thumb for politicians: Offending the affluent comes with consequences. Offending the working poor does not.
He also posits a tax solution which liberals may find quite surprising. (I resemble that remark.)
TOMORROW'S NEWS TODAY: FEEL UP YOUR FIRE METER. The Reno Gazette-Journal did big spreads on three consecutive Sundays (Sept. 14, Sept. 21 and Sept. 28) on NV Energy smart meter fires. Welcome aboard.
Barbwire readers were two years ahead on the fire meter issue. (Touch a Smart Meter, Go to Jail 11 October 2012)
FIRE METER UPDATES: THE NEVADA FIRE MARSHALL'S INVESTIGATION concluded "don't worry, be happy." I'm still worried and will continue fondling NVE's precious equipment > If your smart meter feels very hot, not just from sunshine, call 911.
In its Sunday 21 Dec. 2014 front page headline major story, the Reno Gazette-Journal published results of the NVEnergy-commissioned "don't worry, be happy" echo study.
On 1-27-2015, the RGJ published an analysis based on veteran reporter Anjeanette Damon's review of more than 1,000 pages of documents. Barbwire bottom line: NVE handles this like auto manufacturers handle defects > It's cheaper to pay legal settlements after people are injured or killed than to fix the problem.
Don'tcha worry 'bout a thing! If you can't trust your power company, who can you trust?
DIDN'T THEY MAKE A MOVIE CALLED "THE INCREDIBLES"? On 2-6-2015, the RGJ reported that the Public Utilities Commission has ordered NVE to hire an independent laboratory to review the material.

The medium that shapes public opinion needs at least one refuge where it is not filtered through the distorted green eye shades of prissy corporate accountants for whom profit is the only priority; where self-censorship is the journalist's normal work environment and where all sins of omission are tacitly encouraged and forgiven with the wave of a balance sheet.
This is important. We've got a lot of work to do.
