Am I psychic, or what?

Last week, I wrote "Betwixt all the Trump flags in the thinly attended Carson City MAGAcidal maniax demonstration was a home-made sign stating 'All cults should be voluntary.' They are obviously experts on that kinda stuff."

Amen.

In 1979, the Rev. Jim Jones told his Peoples Temple acolytes to drink killer Kool-Aid and more than 400 did so in "Jonestown," Guyana. Jones had Congressman Leo Ryan, D-Calif., and his staff murdered as they got off a plane to investigate just before the mass exit.

Just as this newspaper was coming off the press, Czar Donaldov ordered his cult to commit mass suicide, and not wait until November. (Questionable registered voter strategy.)

The New York Daily News reported that his Big Apple franchise apparently took Trump's medical advice to o.d. on Clorox and Lysol.

"A spike in New Yorkers ingesting household cleaners (followed) Trump’s controversial coronavirus comments," the News noted. Poison control reports had already spiked nationwide.

When El Presidente pimped a heart attack-causing malaria medication as a cure-all, a couple drank fish tank cleaner because of a similar ingredient disclosed on the container. The husband died and his widow lay in ICU at last report.

"I'm a bleeding heart liberal and thus always open to new ideas," I wrote to my New York readers.

"I will give the president's innovative new medical therapy careful consideration if he will be the first to try drinking bleach and applying his makeup with Lysol. Swill at will. Bon appetit. Alleluia! Stay safe, sane and sanitary in the permanent sanitarium."

ON THE UPSIDE: LIFE GOES ON. The precocious and pretty three year-old who lives forever in my mind celebrated a birthday last week. Now a successful Bay Area high-techie, I sent her this.

FAIR NOTICE. This week, my first cousin, Louie Barbano turned 99. I should be the same age but my dad did not marry until his mid-40s. All my paternal first cousins were WW2 Greatest Generationites. One of few remaining, he lives on the Santa Barbara coast. Me and my bro are going to help him blow out the candles on his 100th.

I am printing this to serve notice on supporters and detractors alike that if I inherit the longevity of my dad's side of the family, the Barbwire will still be puncturing pompous balloons here in these parts until mid-century.

SPEAKING OF IMMORTALITY. UNR student Megan Keegan <megankeegan22@gmail.com> is building a website about the history of the Reno-Sparks NAACP.

"If any of the members you spoke of have stories that center around the 1960s, the main theme of my website, I would love to add them to my website," she says.

"My website is due this Sunday and I came across your picture of (late Branch President) Eddie Scott (Barbwire 6-13-2017) late in my research. So, if they would be willing to share their stories with me via email or text or video of themselves, that would be the best way for me to incorporate them before deadline. The website will include video and I would love to have more voices if possible. If that turnaround is too fast, I completely understand. Thank you again for all your help."

CHANGE THE DATE / SAVE THE DATE — Friday, October 23. For obvious reasons, I've moved César Chávez XVIII from March 31, the great labor leader's 93rd birthday. The event will be held at the Atlantis Resort, sponsored by Laborers' Union Local 169, the Reno-Sparks NAACP and the usual suspects. Doors open 5:30, dinner 6:30-ish. I don't know how I'll top my greatest hits of a cherried-out Aretha Franklin 1965 pink Cadillac convertible (with suitable live music) followed by Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak with suitable politics, but I'm working on it. Ex-Tribunite Dennis Myers will become the first journalist inducted to the César Chávez Nevada Labor Hall of Fame. [4-20-2019] — About 100 demonstrators from almost all the region's unions, local community service organizations and political activists joined Culinary Union members picketing Circus Circus in the late afternoon of April 18. A couple of CC suits came out to see what all the fuss was about, as if they didn't already know. In addition to the familiar union "contract now!" chants came calls for a strike against the Carano jocks. ¡Viva Huelga! ¡Sí se puede!

REAL NEWS DEPT. In January 2019, Culinary Union Local 226 defeated an attempt by Circus Circus-Reno to decertify (terminate) the union's representation of its workers. No word on whether management plans to appeal the result to the National Labor Relations Board which was recently put out of business for 35 days. Thank you, Czar Donaldov.
